OLYMPIA—Staff at the Department of Licensing (DOL) will be working over the weekend to help customers take advantage of the federal Cash for Clunkers new vehicle rebate program scheduled to end on Monday, Aug. 24.
Over the past several weeks, DOL has processed more than 1,600 separate registration verification requests for individuals wanting to trade in their current vehicle under this program.
“We’ve been working hard to help Washington residents take advantage of the rebate program, and we’re going to keep it up this weekend,” DOL Deputy Director Alan Haight said. “We want to make sure vehicle dealers and their customers get the help they need for smooth vehicle sale transactions.”
To qualify for the federal rebate program, a car must have been registered to the current owner for one continuous year. The proof of this can be obtained through special phone and fax numbers set up to help Cash for Clunkers participants.
Customers should download the Vehicle/Vessel Disclosure Request from DOL’s website, dol.wa.gov, and fax back the notarized form to the department at (360) 570-7088. Questions about obtaining proof of registration can be directed to (360) 359-4000.
DOL staff will be on hand from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 23 to process incoming registration verification requests.
