MONROE – Late-night and early-morning drivers on SR 522 in Monroe should allow some extra time for their trips this week.

Crews will close one direction of SR 522 near the Snohomish River Bridge and alternate one-way traffic Monday through Thursday night, Sept. 19-22. The lane will close at 9 p.m. each night and reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning. During the closures crews will grind and pave the roadway as they begin shifting traffic to create a work zone.

An automated traffic signal will direct traffic through the closure, but drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

This work is part of the $160 million SR 522 Snohomish River to US 2 widening project. Crews are widening the highway to four lanes between the Snohomish River Bridge and 179th Avenue SE in Monroe: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR522/Widen/SnoRiver_US2.
