United Way of Snohomish County Offering $40,000 in Financial Education Grants; Deadline April 13
(Everett, WA) - Just in time for National Financial Literacy Month in April, United Way of Snohomish County is offering $40,000 in grants to fund financial education and counseling programs serving low- or moderate-income individuals and families in Snohomish County. Grant funds may be used to support classroom instruction, one-on-one counseling, or a combination of classroom and individualized support. Applications must be received at the United Way of Snohomish County office by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012.
"Financial stability is the cornerstone of a healthy community," said Dr. Dennis Smith, president and CEO of United Way of Snohomish County. "These grants will help provide families in our community much needed access to financial education and counseling."
Programs could include money management, savings, budgeting, avoiding fraud, credit management or other relevant financial topics. To be eligible, applicants must use a financial education curriculum, which they are asked to describe in their grant application. Funds may be used to support or expand an existing financial education program or to develop a new financial education offering. Eligible programs will need to serve adults, families or youth.
The maximum award for a grant is $5,000. Organizations currently receiving United Way multi-year program grants are eligible for this grant, as long as the proposed program is clearly distinct from any currently funded United Way program. Grant applicants must either have their 501(c)3 nonprofit status or partner with a tax-exempt nonprofit agency that will serve as their fiscal agent. These grants are being offered through United Way's Families Matter Vision Council thanks to funding provided by The Boeing Company. Grant recipients will be notified by May 21.
