SEATTLE- May 16, 2012 - Pacific Medical Centers (PacMed) today announced nearly 10,000 eligible military families and retirees living in Snohomish County no longer will need to travel to Seattle to visit a doctor, thanks to a unique partnership with Providence Medical Group.

PacMed is one of only six healthcare organizations nationally that sponsor the Uniformed Services Family Health Plan (USFHP), a Department of Defense health care option available to military family members in six areas across America, including the Puget Sound.

“We have worked with Providence Medical Group in the past to provide care to a limited number of our USFHP members at Providence’s Marysville clinic.  We are expanding that relationship to include Providence’s Everett and Snohomish clinics as well as allow new, eligible members to use the Marysville clinic,” said Harvey Smith, CEO of PacMed.  “We chose to work with Providence as that organization’s health care delivery system most closely aligns with our own ‘medical home’ approach, a team-based model of continuous and coordinated care designed and centered on the patient's needs.”

“We are pleased to be able to offer military and veteran families care closer to home through this exciting partnership with PacMed,” said Carolyn Bodeen with Providence Medical Group. “We recognize that for some 15 years running, USFHP members report satisfaction rates significantly higher than national norms for commercial HMOs – and that those ratings reflect the highly personalized, quality care members receive. We appreciate PacMed’s trust in us to deliver the kind of care their members expect and deserve.”

USFHP provides the TRICARE Prime benefit and delivers health care to more than 115,000 beneficiaries nationally. Individuals enrolled in the USFHP must live in one of six service areas where they can receive benefits from a network of community-based, not-for-profit healthcare systems (including PacMed). This plan is the only Prime program that offers benefits to beneficiaries over the age of 65, regardless of whether they are enrolled in Medicare Part B. The Department of Defense has become increasingly strained as a result of rising health care costs and these growing health care costs have made TRICARE an ongoing target for reform and deficit reduction.

Recent changes in TRICARE eligibility rules mean there is limited opportunity to take advantage of the special benefits of USFHP. Attend a free briefing to learn about TRICARE Prime health plan. For dates and information please visit www.PacMed.org/USFHP or call 1 (866) 418-7347.
