EVERETT – Everett Fire Department crews responded to a duplex fire at 7:45 a.m. this morning.
Arriving crews found the duplex heavily involved in smoke and flame, with eight residents outside the structure who said that everyone had evacuated.
The residents reported having awakened to the smell of smoke, and searched for the source before evacuating. Crews initially attacked the fire from outside, and entered the duplex at 8:25 a.m. to extinguish the remainder of the fire inside. The fire was knocked down by about 8:35 a.m.
There were no life threatening injuries to the residents, but five adults and three children were transported to Providence Regional Medical Center for evaluation. The damage estimate to the structure is $300,000. There were no injuries to firefighters. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
