OLYMPIA – Washington and Oregon’s shared transportation system will be the focus of a meeting between the Washington State Transportation Commission and the Oregon Transportation Commission this month in Pendleton, Ore.

The joint meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Walla Walla Room at the Red Lion Hotel, 304 SE Nye Avenue, in Pendleton. The meeting is open to the public.

The bi-state meeting will include preliminary discussions about possible toll-rate setting structures for the Columbia River Crossing project where Interstate 5 spans the Columbia River between Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash. The two commissions are designated as their state’s tolling authority and as such, will be making future decisions on project toll rates and policies.

Other topics to be addressed include the work under way in each state evaluating road usage charge systems, the Amtrak Cascades rail corridor and highway electrification efforts aimed at establishing charging stations for electric vehicles along the I-5 corridor.
