SNOHOMISH – Drivers should plan ahead for a full closure of westbound US 2 between State Route 9 and 20th Street Southeast/SR 204 from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17. During the closure, crews will cut into the highway to remove and replace a deteriorating culvert.
Drivers can choose alternate routes around the closure or follow a signed detour on SR 9 and 20th Street Southeast. The detour will add 10 to 15 minutes to most trips, but drivers traveling Saturday and Sunday afternoons should expect congestion, with up to 20 minutes of extra travel time. To help keep traffic moving on the detour route, crews will add a temporary second left-turn lane from northbound SR 9 to westbound 20th Street Southeast during the weekend closure.
This is the fourth of six directional closures of US 2 in Snohomish planned through September. Crews are replacing five corroded culverts underneath the highway with new pipes make of thick, heavy, rubberized plastic.
This work is part of the US 2/Bickford Avenue intersection safety and culvert replacement project. For details, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US2/BickfordSafety. For more information on closures in Snohomish County, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/Snohomish/Construction.
