The Red Cross has continued to be involved with the victims of the Hewitt Avenue since Thursday Nov. 8. The Red Cross immediately provided shelter, comfort kits, food and blankets. They have provided financial assistance for clothing and shoes and medication. Workers coordinated with the manager of the destroyed building to help relocate residents to other available units or refund rent and deposit. Volunteer counselors have continued to be available for residents by making contact by phone. And, the agency has referred residents to other community non-profit organizations for essential household items, a need that will be ongoing as families move into available housing.
