We plan to close Elliott Road, under SR 522 west of the Snohomish River, on the night of Wednesday, Jan. 23. Elliott Road will close at 8 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. During the closure, crews will set bridge girders. The girders are the backbone of one of the new bridges we must build while widening SR 522 from two lanes to four between US 2 and the Snohomish River.
Curse that ice on SR 9 near Bothell
Icy conditions foiled our plan earlier this week to shift traffic onto the new southbound lanes of SR 9 between Bothell and Clearview. We'll try again on Monday night, Jan. 21, to restripe the lanes so north and southbound traffic will temporarily share the new southbound lanes. Shifting the traffic allows us to work safely on the other side of the highway. If it's too icy on Monday night, we'll try for Tuesday. When all is said and done this fall, that stretch of SR 9 will have two lanes in both directions and a raised median to separate them.
Brrr, it's cold outside!
After more than a week of freezing overnight temperatures, it doesn't look like there's going to be any let up for at least the next couple days. Those freezing mornings are a good reminder to take it slow when there's the possibility of ice. A good rule of thumb is, if there's ice on your windshield, there's a good chance it's on the road. If you park in a garage, check a nearby car that's been outside all night.
