Drivers on State Route 522 in Monroe should plan on delays or
consider using an alternate route on Sunday, April 7.
Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will
close both directions of SR 522 between 164th Street Southeast and
Fales/Echo Lake roads from 7 - 11 a.m.
Drivers can take alternate routes during the closures or follow a signed
detour using State Route 9 and US 2. The detour will add 10 miles and about 20
minutes of travel time, depending on a driver's destination and traffic
This blasting work will take slightly longer than work in the past due
to the types of soil and rock that make up the hillside. To keep traffic
moving, we scheduled this work over the weekend when traffic volumes are
Residents in the area may hear warning horns and whistles prior to the
blast, as crews clear and secure the blasting area. The actual blast
will occur between 7:15 - 7:30 a.m.
This work is part of the SR 522/US 2 widening project.
