Snohomish County and Housing Hope will continue their ongoing series of classes designed to help nonprofits fight through leaner, more challenging economic times.
Called “social enterprise,” one direction is to develop revenue‐generating business that can earn unrestricted income and increase visibility.
HopeWorks Social Enterprises, established in 2010 by Housing Hope, will host its next Social Enterprise workshop at the Ken Schilaty Learning Center at 5908 Evergreen Way, Everett, on May 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Titled “The Benefits Cliff: Balancing Earnings with Public Benefits,” participants will learn that while earning a livable wage is one of the keys to breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness, the transition can present unexpected challenges for the wage earner.
This workshop will feature subject matter experts who will explain the real barriers and obstacles that frequently arise, discuss why it is critical for employers, nonprofit agencies and the community to understand this real social and economic impact.
On June 5, Jennifer Becker Harris, a CPA from Clark Nuber, will present “Unrelated Business Income – the Impact for Nonprofits,” which will provide useful information for the finance professional as well as for nonprofit staff and leadership.
Workshops cost $10 for non-Social Enterprise Network of Snohomish County (SENSC) members. Memberships covering all classes for 2013 are $50. Both costs include up to five attendees per agency per class.
