Police lights and flying helicopters surrounded the lake last week when a tragic boating accident took the life of a long-time Lake Stevens man.

Onlookers stationed themselves in North Cove Park watching and waiting for hours for the Lake Stevens Rowing Club’s 42-year-old Master rower to be recovered by search and rescue dive teams.

The loss of a life in such a heartbreaking way has touched many within our close-knit community.
First, the lives of the man’s family will never be the same. Losing a husband and father, at such a young age, is almost too hard to imagine. Fellow community members are grieving with the family as they endure this heartbreak.

The Lake Stevens Rowing Club and the entire rowing community are also mourning the loss of one of their own. This tight-knit group is holding each other up as they cope and realize that this could have happened to any one of them.
Then there are the young 17-year-old boys and their families who have to bear the pain of what happened in a split second. Their lives will never be the same either.

But Lake Stevens is known for its compassion, empathy and its strength when it comes to uniting for the greater good.
Let’s each continue to mourn for all of those lives that have been affected in this tragic accident and remember them in our prayers.

They are going to need us in this time of grief and suffering.
