2009-2010 Achievements and Awards
We are proud of our staff members and students for outstanding accomplishments in and out the classroom:
  • Mountain Way Elementary is a 2010 School of Distinction award winner
     
  • Katie Reverman qualified for the 2010 national competition for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
     
  • Two students were named as a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program
     
  • The first ever all female Eco-marathon team researched, designed, and competed in the 2010 Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition in Houston and won first place in the diesel category, third place for safety, and the “bling” award.
     
  • Nine teachers have earned National Board Certification
     
  • Crossroads High School was the recipient of $250,000 Building Bridges Grant
     
  • Over 75% of our staff members have earned a masters degree
     
  • As of October 2010, the Adopt a Math Book program raised over $52,000 to help purchase K-8 math books!
     
  •  Community member Barbara Belshee and the Everett Herald were awarded the Granite Falls School District Volunteer of the Yea and Partnership of the Year awards respectively
     
  • The Middle School “Singsation” choir were selected to perform at the State Music Educators’ Association Conference in February and at the Everett Chorale concert in April
     
  • The Online Academy was launched for students in grades 6-12 as one educational option
     
  • Mountain Way Principal Cathie West was highlighted in the Professional Association in Education PDK International magazine
     
  •  Middle School teacher Linda Carstens was awarded a Learning and Teaching for the 21st Century technology grant
     
  •  The seventh grade football team and the seventh grade volleyball teams were both undefeated
     
  • Rhiannon Alexander was the Cascade Conference cross country champion, won the district title, and took fifth place at state
     
  • Cross Country, soccer, football, volleyball, wrestling, track, and softball all participated in post season play
     
  • Eighth grade student Liberty Davis won the Snohomish County Red Cross “Real Heroes” award
     
  •  Math coach Tim Bartlett was selected to serve on a state committee to provide input on developing national standards for English and math
     
  • 19 students were selected for first or second team all league honors
     
  • 14 High School athletic teams earned the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association academic honors
     
  • Mountain Way teacher Jim Dockery was the winner of the Granite Falls Press photo contest
     
  •  School Board member Siobhan Sullivan completed the Leadership WSSDA class, a year-long training by the Washington State School Directors Association
     
  • Mountain Way student Maia Whitley won the AquaSox bookmark art contest
     
  •  63 new members were inducted into the Middle School Honor Society; and 23 new members in the High School Honor Society
     
  • High School junior John Haskett received the award of Washington State Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association
     
  • Askash Sethi qualified for the state Spelling bee and Devin Boyd qualified for the state National Geography Bee
     
  • Elementary teacher Tracy Land was selected by the state to be part of the writing team to develop testing questions
     
  • High School Principal Eric Cahan was selected to serve on the National Committee on Student Contests and Activities
     
  • High School students Justine Hagan and Jacob Byron won silver medal at the Special Olympic Regional competition
     
  • Ciera Scown, Miranda Meier, Katie Reverman, and Jacob Brown qualified for the FBLA state competition
     
  • Alumni Hall of Fame winners included Ed Horn and Raylene Alexander
     
  • Over 90 families received enough food for several weeks and gifts for the holidays thanks to food/gift drives at the High School and Monte Cristo Elementary
     
  • Monte Cristo Multiage student Jodi Bond sang the National Anthem at the Everett Aqua Sox game
     
  • Mountain Way student Kaitlyn Bostrom qualified for the Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior Olympics
     
  • The Middle and High School choirs performed at the Mount Pilchuck Educators Association competitions and received superior ratings from all judges
     
  • Ericka Smith took sixth place in the javelin at the state track meet and Rhiannon Alexander placed twelfth in the 3200
     
  • The High School girls softball team qualified for the state tournament
     
  • The graduation class of 2010 earned over $250,000 in scholarship funding
     
  • Softball coach Candi Reeves was named the Cascade Conference Softball Coach of the Year
     
  • Nancy Matlack Alice Noyd were named the 2009/2010 Employees
    of the Year
