Help local families in need with back to school supplies

The back-to-school shopping season is upon us once again! As you are buying supplies for your children please throw in a few extra items to donate to help local families, so every child in the Lake Stevens School District can start the new year prepared to learn.
Main Street Coffee, Jay’s Market and the Lake Stevens Sewer District are hosting collection boxes. All supplies that these businesses gather will be given to the Lake Stevens Family Center, which distributes to Lake Stevens families. Last year the Family Center helped 577 children, and this year expects to serve over 700.
There are many other businesses and organizations holding back-to-school drives, and I encourage you to ask where your donations will be going. It has come to my attention that some businesses will be distributing through their corporate offices, and not necessarily to local kids. Let’s keep our community strong and help our neighbors.
