We’ve all heard of the Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein romantic masterpiece Show Boat but it has been over a decade since this intoxicating performance has been seen in the Puget Sound area.
The Village Theatre in Everett does not disappointment with their talented, 28-person cast and beautiful sets which includes a 6,000 pound show boat.
The romantic tale was first produced in 1927 and dealt with many of the day’s issues including discrimination and race but the love story throughout is endearing and pulls the audience in.
The acting is superb and the musical talent is unbelievable.
Cayman Ilika, who plays Julie LaVerne has a voice that sucks you in and keeps you begging for more.
By far, the most memorable musical performance was by Ekello Harrid who played Joe. His rendition of “Ol’ Man River” was intoxicating to say the least. That performance alone is worth the price of a ticket.
This is definitely a show you don’t want to miss!
Tickets are on sale now for Show Boat. The show will continue through August 2.
Ticket prices range from $16 to $51. Call 425-257-8600 or visit www.villagetheatre.com to order tickets.
The Village Theatre has just introduced performances for their 2009/2010 season which include Chasing Nicolette, Meet Me in St. Louis, Lost in Yonkers, The Gypsy King and 42nd Street.
