Everett, WA – Village Theatre is excited to announce an amazing season of Pied Piper productions presenting quality international performing arts for young people and their families. “This season offers families the unique opportunity to enjoy five creative story adaptations by five of the United States and Canada’s top theatres for families,” Erica Weir, Pied Piper manager commented. “The best part is that all of these nationally touring shows are based on works by well-known children’s authors and act as a launching point for theatre appreciation as well as a life-long love of reading.” The 2010-2011 Pied Piper Season includes the following performances for the general public:
KNUFFLE BUNNY: A CAUTIONARY MUSICAL Produced by The Kennedy Center Theatre for Young Audiences on Tour Based on the book by Mo Willems
It sounds so simple, just a quick trip to the Laundromat, but before you know it, things go horribly, hilariously wrong. Six-time Emmy Award winner, Mo Willems, joins Grammy Award® winning composer, Michael Silversher, to bring this beloved Caldecott Honor picture book to the stage. Chock-full of adventure, song, and gigantic dancing laundry, Knuffle Bunny lovingly celebrates the heart and heartache that can only come from a family visit to the Laundromat.
Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical plays Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Everett Civic Auditorium (2415 Colby Avenue, Everett)
THE ELVES & THE SHOEMAKER Produced by California Theatre Center Based on the story by the Brothers Grimm
When two merry elves arrive at a small village in the Black Forest to discover a poor, gentle shoemaker who needs their assistance, hilarity ensues. Their good deeds, kindness, and resourcefulness save the holidays for the shoemaker and his wife who pay back the favor with interest. A perennial favorite.
The Elves & The Shoemaker plays Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM at the Everett Performing Arts Center (2710 Wetmore Avenue, Everett)
GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK Produced by Dallas Children’s Theatre Based on the book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin
When the farmer’s away, the animals will play! In this sequel to the barnyard blockbuster, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, good ol’ Farmer Brown leaves his city-slicker brother in charge of his farm while he takes a much-needed vacation. When his detailed instructions fall into the wrongs hands (or wings!), Duck takes the opportunity to do a little re-writing with a few creative embellishments that result in madcap musical mutiny. This funny and colorful story for young audiences teaches respect, compromise, and the value of friendship.
Giggle, Giggle, Quack plays Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Everett Civic Auditorium (2415 Colby Avenue, Everett)
SWIMMY, FREDERICK, INCH BY INCH Produced by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia Based on the books by Leo Lionni
The beautifully illustrated stories of Leo Lionni translate wonderfully to puppet theatre through the gentle storytelling style which has earned international acclaim for Mermaid Theatre. This innovative show features imaginative lightning techniques as well as an original musical score. An engaging question and answer period follows the performance and is included in the 60-minute show length.
Swimmy, Frederick, Inch By Inch plays Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Everett Civic Auditorium (2415 Colby Avenue, Everett)
SEUSSICAL Produced by TheatreworksUSA Based on the books by Dr. Seuss
“Oh, the thinks you can think” when Dr. Seuss’s best-loved stories collide in an unforgettable musical caper! The Cat in the Hat is the host and emcee (and all-around mischief-maker) in this romp through the Seuss classics written by Broadway veterans Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island, the film Anastasia). When the sweet, good-natured elephant Horton hears a small cry for help coming from a small speck of dust, he promises to rescue and guard it because, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” Seuss’s classic characters find themselves intertwined in an incredible adventure, where the power of imagination and the most miraculous “think” ever, save the day!
