Home for battered women and children looking for donations
Rachel House provides support for those in need BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR When women and children are in need of somewhere to run, searching for a place of protection and the opportunity to start over they turn to Millennia Ministries. Millennia Ministries is an organization whose purpose is to help women and children in crisis in Snohomish County.
Rachel House is one of those places.
The Bridge Church is a supporter of Rachel House and many other causes in the community.
They have formed what they call common cause groups where members meet together on a regular basis to keep track of other members and to find ways to help and support the community.
Tim Moore, Pastor at The Bridge Church explains that an important part of his church is having a ministry that shows proof of God’s love.
“Real spirituality begins with what people see and not what people hear,” Moore said.
Over a hundred needs get met every month through common cause groups.
Rachel House is one of the community needs members of The Bridge are trying to help and support.
When women are brought to Rachel House they are given assistance in filling out paperwork for government support and help in finding jobs and furthering their education.
Laura Blanchard comes from a past filled with domestic violence and it is her goal, along with her new husband, to help those who are facing similar situations.
“I came from domestic violence,” she said, “but we both were raised in homes where we helped other people. When you go through crises and come through it, you have a lot of compassion for those going through the same thing.”
The women who come to these homes are told to slow down, catch your breath and take it one day at a time.
“We become their cheerleaders,” said Blanchard.
There are thousands of women and children in this area who are homeless and need the support of homes like Rachel House. There are already women and children who are ready to move in. However, many items are needed to furnish the home and this is where the rest of the community comes into play.
They are looking for beds, sheets, towels, toiletries, clothing of all sizes, food and any other furnishings needed to fill a home and financial donations are always accepted.
