Local business celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness month

BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR On Sunday, Oct. 14, 24 members of Anytime Fitness of Lake Stevens got together in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to walk a 5k in Downtown Bellevue for Making Strides, an organization within the American Cancer Society.

Making Strides set out to raise $500,000, of which the money stays within Puget Sound for breast cancer research, helping provide mammograms for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have one.

Anytime Fitness of Lake Stevens formed the “Anytime Fitness Posse” and together has raised nearly $1,500 with donations still coming in.

“We were fortunate to have had Linda, a seven year survivor, walking with us,” Jennifer Smith of Anytime Fitness said.

Making Strides provided free massages, coffee, pink cupcakes, and the inspirational survivor board.

“Every single one of us will be affected by this horrible disease, and it was such a wonderful experience to have been able to be a part of this,” Smith said.

Permagas campaigns for Breast Cancer awareness Permagas, a Lake Stevens company, has joined with the American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) to help put into service a breast cancer awareness propane truck.

The truck is pink and white with the breast cancer ribbon painted on it.
The ABCF mission is to help provide all of those in financial need a chance at early breast cancer diagnosis.

Permagas is raising money from every sale made from this truck and donating it to the ABCF.

“I’m proud to support such a worthy cause and the cause is receiving a lot of attention,” Sheldon Hendrickson, one of the truck’s drivers said.

Money generated from the pink truck will go towards annual screenings and mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, surgical consultations and biopsies for those otherwise unable to afford them.
