County building new Lake Stevens Community ParkUpcoming facilities will provide the recreational needs of community and local families BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR The site of the new Lake Stevens Community Park just north of 16th Stree NE off of Machias Road. For those who are looking for places to play with our kids and open spaces to enjoy within this pristine community, Snohomish County Parks and Recreation is providing the community of Lake Stevens with a brand new, beautiful park.
Just north of 16th Street NE off of Machias Road, backhoes and county workers are busy with the finishing touches on the road that will lead park visitors into this park, which is surrounded by evergreens.
The new park, which was once an old homestead and timber harvesting site, will feature four full-sized grass football/soccer fields, a full-sized baseball field with up to 90 foot bases and lights and two little league baseball fields with 60 foot bases. It also boasts mixed forest vegetation and two small wetlands.
The park will also include a playground equipped with climbing rock, bay swings, a super nova merry-go-round and two half-court basketball courts.
Over 277 parking stalls will be included with a mosaic tile walkway leading to the baseball complex and a park perimeter walking trail.
“The amenities we’re building at Lake Stevens Community Park will be an asset to this county for many years to come,” Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon said. “Here is another example of listening to the recreational needs of the community and making them happen.”
The park’s grand opening is currently scheduled for September 5, Labor Day weekend and will be opened with limited access at that time. The soccer fields will be open for limited play beginning in April of 2010.
