Police asking for public’s help in locating suspect BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR
On Tuesday, April 14 Lake Stevens Police responded to a 911 call regarding the reported molestation of a 14-year-old girl. The 14-year-old and her 11-year-old sister were walking home from school along Grade Road near 30th Street NE when a man, who was walking towards them, reached out and grabbed the 14-year-old’s breast, Lake Stevens Police Chief Randy Celori said.
The girl’s screamed and ran in the other direction at which time the man ran off.
Lake Stevens School District cancelled three bus routes from Mount Pilchuck and Highland Elementary Schools due to road closures while police performed their search.
Track students from North Lake Middle School were confined to the gymnasium and track area. Parents were notified and asked to pick-up their children.
“This was horrible for that student and the community as a whole,” Arlene Hulten, Community Relations Director for the Lake Stevens School District said.
The man is described as a white male, 30-40 years old, approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall with a stout build, round face and beard stubble. He also had dark brown, straight hair and bright blue eyes.
The suspect was last seen wearing dark colored work style shoes, blue jeans, a dark blue hooded style sweatshirt with the hood up, with a brown jacket worn over the hooded sweatshirt.
“The girls did everything right,” Celori said. “They ran home and called 911 immediately.”
Celori is quick to say that this was not an attempted kidnapping.
Police want to remind parents that safety comes in numbers.
“It’s important when children are walking home from school, they walk home in pairs or groups,” Celori said.
