Relay For Life teams form, begin fundraising
JOURNAL STAFF Relay For Life of North Snohomish County is planning an exciting Relay this year which takes place June 13 and 14 at Marysville Pilchuck High School and encompasses Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Marysville and Arlington. The following events will be leading up to the Relay in June.
The Relay committee is having a Dinner-Dance this Saturday, May 2 at the Pacific Rim Supper Club in Marysville from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $25/person and all the proceeds go directly to the American Cancer Society.
The Lake Stevens Kiwanis are having a drawing for 4 “Night on the Town” baskets. Each basket has one night for two at a hotel in Seattle or at Tulalip Resort, tickets to a show or movie, a bottle of wine and Godiva chocolates. The Grand Prize Basket and the Runner up basket both include dinner for two. The donation for a ticket is $5. Winner will be chosen at Relay on June 13.
They are looking for cancer survivors to attend our Survivor Celebration held the day of the Relay. There will be a Survivor’s Breakfast at 10:30 a.m. on June 13 that will include some pampering and celebration for survivors and their caregivers.
The Relay starts with the Survivor Lap at Noon which allows survivors to celebrate their survivorship.
There will be activities throughout the day.
The activities wind down Saturday evening with the Luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m. This is an inspiring time of reflection to remember those who we have lost to cancer. The Luminarias spell out the word “hope” in the grandstands and also line the track reminding us that cancer never sleeps as we continue to circle the track through the night.
Teams set up campsites around the track and pledge to have at least one team member walking the track for the entire event.
Everyone has known somehow who been affected by cancer. The goal of Relay for Life is to put an end to this horrible disease and Relay For Life gives the opportunity to bring awareness to the importance of finding a cure and also by raising the much needed funds that will go toward cancer research and to programs right here in our community.
Relay For Life of North Snohomish County is looking for teams to join in the fun! If you would like to register a team - visit http:// main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=14554 or email nsnocorelay@gmail.com for more information.
