The crowning of
Miss Aquafest 2009
The past few weeks have been filled with meetings, rehearsals and pageantry for the 27 girls who were running for Miss Aquafest this year and after all of their hard work a new Miss Aquafest, Miss Junior Teen Aquafest, Miss Pre-teen Aquafest, Little Miss Aquafest and Princess Aquafest were crowned at last Saturday night’s event. Miss Aquafest 2008 Tana Thompson, was on hand to crown Miss Aquafest 2009 Laura Anderson.
Other division winners include Emily Armstrong in the Junior Teen division; Ashley Hawkins in Pre-Teen; Grace Egelstad as Little Miss and Summer Keffeler as the Miss Princess.
Team Fitness hosted Friday night’s optional event which included talent, actress, photogenic and speech and the culminating event took place on Saturday at the Lake Stevens High School Performing Arts Center.
Winners in the talent portion of the competition were able to perform at Saturday nights event in front of a full audience.
Those winners were Lindsey Walters who sang “At Last”; Lauren Stallcup, dance; Haley Downey, harp; Brielle Sydow, dance and Aimee Brotten who performed an acrobatic dance.
To start the evening the girls all performed a group dance and then went on to their on stage introductions, casual wear and evening gown categories.
Judges had a tough job of choosing from all of the beautiful and qualified candidates but after all of the scores were tallied; the winners were announced in each category.
The night would not have been a success without the hard work of Miss Aquafest Director Linda Elledge, Co-Director and M.C. Carlie Elledge, Auditor Lisa Elder and Judge Chair Donna Foster.
Judges for this year’s Miss Aquafest included Kathleen Friend, Betty Foster, Julie Blevin, Dave DeLorm, Mayor Vern Little, Police Chief Randy Celori, Aquafest President Mike Friend, Diana Ruiz, Kalihma Fenner and Miss Washington 2008 Michelle Font.
Miss Aquafest has become the kickoff event for Lake Stevens’ annual Aquafest event which will be held on July 24, 25, and 26.
