Two people were fatally wounded last Wednesday, Sept. 16 in the Rhordora Heights neighborhood in Lake Stevens.

A woman, 27, and a man, 31, were dead following a shooting in a neighborhood in the 300 block of 119th Drive SE in unincorporated Lake Stevens.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. someone in the neighborhood called to report a disturbance outside between a man and woman, involving a gun, Snohomish County Sheriff’s spokesperson Rebecca Hover said.

As the first of several deputies arrived on scene, one of the deputies heard several gunshots and witnessed a man fall to the ground. As she got closer, she discovered two bodies on the ground outside.

Hover said that aid arrived and pronounced both the man and woman dead at the scene.

Detectives have said that the man and woman were ex-boyfriend and girlfriend and that the man shot the woman before turning the gun on himself.

The woman was staying with someone who lived in the cul-de-sac, near where the shooting happened. The man did not live in the neighborhood, Hover said.

A home run daycare was just a few doors down from the scene of the crime. Deputies retrieved the children and took them to safety.

Both the Snohomish County Sheriff and the Lake Stevens Police Department assisted at the scene.

“It was tragic loss of life and we are thankful that nobody else was injured. More injuries were eluded thanks to the quick response from the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department,” Lake Stevens Police Chief Randy Celori said.

Detectives said at this point there’s no indication law enforcement had any previous dealings with either person.

There was a handgun recovered at the scene.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office can not confirm reports that the woman was pregnant.

As of press time the Snohomish County Medical Examiner had not released the names of the shooter or victim.

 The case remains under investigation.
