The Ironman 70.3 brings hundreds of athletes to the cities in which they occur and Lake Stevens has fast become one of the favorites on the circuit bringing droves of people to our fair city.

“The hospitality of this town is amazing. We’re grateful for their (residents) hospitality,” Markus Wheeler said.

This year’s event was held on Sunday, August 15 in record-breaking heat, but that didn’t stop the athletes or their families from enjoying the scenery and competition. Even the locals came out to take a peek at this annual event.

“Besides this heat,  the Tri(athlon) is fun to watch,” Bridget Breindey said. “I don’t personally know anyone in it I just like to cheer on the athletes.”

The thermometer boasted temperatures in the 90s but the fierce competitors continued the race without complaint.

Joe Gambles of Boulder, Colo. took first place in the race. Gambles was ranked 22nd.

The Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce, and Lake Stevens Police Randy Celori, have been an integral part of keeping the Ironman 70.3 in Lake Stevens, which brings thousands of dollars into the community each year.
