Lake Stevens High School students Brittney Schmidt and Jory Weissert recently shared with the School Board news that their Literary Magazine, The Valkyrie, was one of five schools to receive recognition in the state of Washington for their work on and in the Valkyrie.
The 2010 Valkyrie is a 40-page Literary Magazine which includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, essays and graphic art that is all written and produced by Lake Stevens High School students. It is published each spring by students in Advanced Creative Writing, and student editors evaluate and select the submitted work to be included in the publication. Students from throughout the school may submit work for selection for publication.
The Lake Stevens High School’s literary magazine, The Valkyrie, was recognized for their work for the second year in a row. The Valkyrie received an above average ranking in the 2010 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) program which recognizes excellence in student literary magazines. A total of 413 schools entered the competition.
