Residents from Lake Stevens mingled with First
Responders at the First Responders Thank You event.

Lake Stevens held its first ever National Thank You Day to First Responders last week at the Lake Stevens Fire District’s Administrative offices.

Thank you notes from community members littered tables letting firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and police officers know how appreciated they are.

Dr. Darlene Castle initiated the event. Castle’s friend, Kelly Clark, had been in a serious accident and was saved through the efforts of first responders.

Clark holds her own event in Bothell each year.
Castle’s hope is that more and more people will recognize the effects that these first responders have on the lives of so many.

“I want this to grow and grow each year,” Castle said.
Mayor Vern Little signed a proclamation making May 19, 2011 National Thank You Day to honor First Responders in Lake Stevens.

“Every one of our citizens expect us to be there when needed,” he said. “I thought this was a great idea. I want to do this every year. It is obvious that the people of Lake Stevens and surrounding areas realize how important this is.”
