Stella Rudge, a 2011 graduate of Lake Stevens High School has been accepted as a student ambassador to Costa Rica with a national group of students this June through People To People, a program that Dwight Eisenhower founded and whose daughter, Mary Jean Eisenhower, is President of today.
Last November, Rudge underwent brain surgery to correct a Chiari Malformation (a brain disorder she was born with) at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital.
Her recovery makes this trip to Costa Rica all the more exciting. She’s been through so much and has managed to come through it stronger.
“We’re very proud of the character and strength Stella has shown throughout her life,” her mom Rene Rudge said. “She is a compassionate human being and turned out to be an amazing photographer with the guidance of Ms. Granillo at the high school.”
Rudge will be using her talents in Costa Rica and will get college credit for a photography project. She’s especially excited to visit an orphanage in Heredia and volunteer.
