Teens dance with local seniors at last year’s Love for all Ages Dance.
In celebration of Valentine’s on Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. nearly 100 people will gather at the Senior Center on Soper Hill in Lake Stevens for an inter-generational dance.
With DJ Bob Justice contributing his time and talents spinning tunes from the 40’s to the present, and guests ranging in age from 11 to 91, nothing about this event will be ordinary.
Seniors and teens will enjoy conversations around brightly decorated tables and feast on a delicious dinner provided by Albertsons and other local supporters. The most memorable moments will arrive as teens and seniors pair up to share each other’s favorite music and dance steps.
This dance is a joint project between the Lake Stevens Family Center’s Youth Advisory Council and the Lake Stevens Senior Center.
The goal is to bring teens and seniors together in a fun and festive environment to build new connections, eliminate fears, break down some of the generational barriers that isolate the two groups from one another, and give each a glimpse into the other’s interests and uniqueness.
The sharing of experiences and generational cultures creates an atmosphere of mutual respect, new understanding and appreciation of one another. For the past three years of this tradition and from all the enthusiastic comments that pour forth from both these groups, it is clear that a love of dancing and good times is not the only thing these people share.
A suggested donation of $5 per person includes dinner and dancing for the evening. For more detailed information or volunteer opportunities please contact the Lake Stevens Family Center at 425-397-7433.
