Got Lake? Well if you didn’t “get lake” this weekend you really missed out!
This year’s Aquafest event was another huge victory that brought in over 40,000 people to the streets of downtown Lake Stevens.
Each year Lake Stevens’ annual festival offers a variety of events for people of all ages.
Sporting events range from disc golf to tennis, waterskiing and wakeboarding to a $50 boat race. Runners could compete in the 5K, 10K or even a quadrathon that also included rowing, biking and swimming.
There were basketball competitions, softball, and even a fun celebrity softball game where local celebs compete against some Silvertips and Stealth players, radio personalities and this year KING-5’s Jesse Jones joined in.
Aquafest also offers parades for the kids and boaters and the highlight of Aquafest—The Grand Parade which packs in the crowds each and every summer.
Even the evenings offer a variety of fun from a Movie in the Park on Friday to the beautiful fireworks display over the lake on Saturday.
Bands from every genre entertained the crowds at North Cove Park and for those who wanted some 21 and older ambiance, the Kiwanis Club’s Beer Garden was the place to be.
Fair food from corn on the cob to ice cream, and meat of almost every kind could be found as folks walked through the food court.
Screams from excited kids and teens came blaring through as they tilted and twirled on the rides provided by Davis Shows.
None of this could be possible without the dozens of Aquafest board members who donate their time throughout the year to plan this spectacular event.
The hundreds of volunteers who spend hours during the weekend helping out wherever they are needed are also an essential part of Aquafest’s success!
And of course the sponsors who generously donate monetary or in-kind funds to ensure that Aquafest will be a huge success each and every year.
Aquafest 2012 President Dave DeLorm said the weekend couldn’t have been better.
“We had another successful celebration at this year’s 2012 “Got Lake” Aquafest festival! From the Children’s Parade on Friday to the Family Fun Fest on Sunday, everyone had a great time. Special thanks to the City of Lake Stevens, our dedicated volunteers and our sponsors,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of this incredible community event, thank you all!”
