Businesses around Lake Stevens are decked out in purple to celebrate the third annual Paint the Town Purple event, the precursor to Relay for Life of Lake Stevens, which will take place on May 10 and 11 at Lake Stevens High School.
Several businesses including Country Dawn Preschool, Tom Thumb Grocery, Ashley Pointe and Bourne Orthodontics showed off their creative side with purple showering them from the inside out.
Bourne Orthodontics staff even dressed in purple to help get the town motivated to raise funds to beat cancer.
“Because we are a healthcare facility, we wanted it to look very clean and organized and not too crazy, so there is a lot of little detail in our décor,” Brandy Ensign, Administrative/Internal Marketing Coordinator for Bourne Orthodontics said. “Most of our decor is indoors, but we wanted it that way, due to the fact that we have 200-250 different people each day coming through our office, who we hope will be moved, and become aware of Relay For Life of Lake Stevens.”
Bourne Orthodontics won the prize for Most Spirited from the secret judges for this year’s Paint the Town Purple event.
“Along with our decor, we were trying to raise awareness and support Relay For Life through our Facebook page. From now through May 11, Bourne Orthodontics will be donating $1 for every new person who “likes” Bourne Orthodontics on Facebook.
Ace Hardware is also donating up to an additional $500 for “liking” them on Facebook. They will donate $1 for every “like” up to $500.
Ashley Pointe received the prize for Best Overall and Country Dawn Preschool won for Most Creative.
Several other businesses participated and many will be leaving their decorations up until after Relay for Life.
Along with the city-wide decorating contest an arts and crafts fair was held at North Cove Park where Relay teams were able to sell goods to raise money for the fight against cancer. To start the day the Kiwanis Club held a pancake breakfast at the community center as well.
Even through the cold and rain 20 teams raised over a thousand dollars for Relay for Life this year.
