Over a dozen members of Calvary Chapel Church in Marysville will travel to the city of Jacmel, Haiti in November for a week-long mission, but they aren’t going empty handed.

Taking a peek into the relationship of prayer

The popular saying, “What you say is what you are” is backed up biblically in Luke 6:45. “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” This is never more true than with prayer. Listening to someone pray is like peeking into their soul.

The After “Math” of Terrorism

As our nation reflects this week on the historic tragedy and loss of September 11, as well as the heroism of many individuals and the progress seen this past decade on the war against terrorism, I revised the following article written nearly ten years ago.

We need to take the time to just stop

I had a great conversation the other day on what it means to stop, and we used the example of a Stop Sign. Actually, I should put “Stop Sign” in quotes, since most of us seem to take that particular road sign with at least a little bit of latitude.

Keeping the Faith: Seasons change

I was told some decades ago that my life would pass like the seasons of the year. With life-expectancy hovering at roughly around eighty years, my wise counselor said that we can divide our lives into four seasons of twenty years each.

On joining the Over-the-Hill gang

A friend of mine said to me recently, “Old boy, how’s it feel to be a member of the Over-the-Hill gang?” I mumbled something as politely as I could, but on the inside, I was a little furious. I may be getting older, but I definitely am not old! In fact, I plan to get older every day.

Keep on Going

One day a painter sold a Picasso painting to a friend. The friend, who knew Picasso, took it to him to verify it. Picasso took one look and said, “It’s a fake.”

Jesus Christ, the NFL, and a man named Art Monk

August 2, 2008 is a memorable day for me. I was never that big of an Art Monk fan (simply because there were other NFL players I grew up rooting for), but when he received his induction into the NFL Hall of Fame and gave his acceptance speech on ESPN that evening, there was only one thing I could do: Praise God.
