Lake’s final touchdown was scored by Christian Gasca on a 14-yard pass from Jake Nelson. The Journal reported that the touchdown had been scored by Brandon Belcher but the error was discovered too late to make a correction before the paper went to press.
Poor visibility from the Marysville pressbox, blocked by several posts, and the similarity of the players’ numbers (Belcher is #35, Gasca is #85) contributed to the error, as did the Marysville public announcer’s incorrect attribution of the touchdown to Belcher. The correction has been made in the official Viking game and season statistics.
