Kyle Larson, a graduate of Lake Stevens High School, is one of 14 members of the Western Oregon University men’s and women’s cross country team which represented the school in the NCAA Division II National Championships, Dec. 4, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Larson is a junior at Western Oregon and is a double major in Spanish and English Linguistics.
He came to WOU out of Lake Stevens and this season he ran in all five races for the men. He earned four top 50 finishes, including finishing a season-best 17th at the Mike Hodges Invitational.
He placed 20th at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships to help Western Oregon finish third as a team.
He then held off a batch of Cal Poly Pomona runners over the final 400m at the NCAA West Regional to place 32nd, and help the Wolves earn the region’s final berth to Nationals.
Western Oregon’s men’s and women’s cross country teams both qualified for nationals by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, at the West Regional. This is the first time the WOU men’s and women’s teams have both qualified for the nationals since 1988 when Western Oregon was competing in the NAIA.
