The Lake Stevens High School wrestling team defeated Decatur 51-18 on Tuesday, December 18. Lake Stevens recorded four pins and a forfeit, along with four other victories, to remain unbeaten in this season’s dual meets.
The biggest match of the night was between Lake Stevens’ Brandon Johnson, the number-one ranked 4A heavyweight and Decatur’s Kyle Gleed, the number-one ranked 3A heavyweight. Johnson pinned Gleed, securing his ranking as the number-one all-class heavyweight in the state.
Lake Stevens’ Eric Soler returned from an injury to wrestle in his first match of the year. Soler, the returning 126-pound state champion, wrestled at 145 pounds and pinned his opponent. At 113 pounds, Eric’s brother, freshman Michael Soler, defeated his opponent Trysten Dawson, ranked third in his weight class for 3A.
Decatur is ranked number two out of the state’s 3A wrestling teams, while Lake is the top-ranked team of all classes in Washington. A dual was also scheduled that evening with Yelm but was cancelled because of snow.
