The Lake Stevens High School wrestling team defeated Snohomish in a home dual meet on Tuesday, Jan. 22, to take home their fifth straight Wesco North title. Winning eleven out of fourteen matches, the Vikings won by a score of 51-12.

The match of the night was between Lake Stevens’ Jesse Peterson, ranked second in state at 132 pounds, and Snohomish’s Greg Eagle, ranked fifth at 138 pounds. With fifteen seconds left in the third round, Peterson was down 2-0 but then hit a two-point reversal and put Eagle on his back for three near-fall points to win the match.

Lake Stevens wrestling begins the road to state with the district tournament at Snohomish High School on February 1 and 2. Last year Snohomish broke Lake Stevens’ 12-year district-tournament win streak, but the Vikings expect to avenge that loss this year. Wrestlers who place top four at the district tournament move on to the regional tournament, where the top four placers qualify for state.
