On Thursday, January 12 the Viking wrestlers took on the Arlington Eagles beating them by 46 points.

Lake Stevens boys beat Cascade at home on Tuesday last week 63-57, then lost to a touring Australian club team 60-51 in a game played at Cavelero Mid High on Thursday. 

Over the holidays the Lake Stevens wrestling team traveled to Lakewood, Cali. to compete in the 21st annual North Torrance Tournament of Champions held on Dec. 29 and 30.

Lake boys split a pair of games in Wesco North basketball action last week, beating Edmonds-Woodway at home and losing to Kamiak on the road.

Viking girls cruised through a pair of lopsided wins in the Wenatchee Holiday Basketball Tournament last week.

The Vikings 17-year at home winning streak remains intact as the Lake Stevens wrestlers defeat this year’s top rated and defending Oregon 6A State Champion, Roseburg Indians 33-33, winning on tiebreaker criteria by having the most six-point decisions.

It’s no secret that Lake, after finishing fourth at State last season and returning some very talented players, is aiming to do even better this season.

Viking boys basketball team won both of its games last week, 58-45 over Marysville-Pilchuck and 58-50 against Evergreen of Seattle (White Center).

The Lake Stevens wrestling team traveled to North Idaho College in Coeur D’Alene to compete in the Tri State Wrestling Championships held December 16 and 17.

With 6-9 center Lorin Vandegrift (a double-figure scorer and rebounder and key insider defender) sidelined until next month with a leg stress fracture Mark Hein's Vikings needed to find a way to take up the slack against two of its top Wesco 4A North rivals last week, Arlington and Monroe.

After the first two games of Wesco North 4A play it appears that five of the six teams have a shot at winning the league title this season. Lake is among those five.

Lake's magical ride through the State Football Playoffs ended last Saturday night in the Tacoma Dome where the Vikings fell to Skyview of Vancouver, 38-17.

Lake was the underdog at Eastlake in the State 4A football quarterfinals according to almost all the prognosticators but instead it was the Vikings who dominated from start to finish in Sammamish last Saturday night, laying a 50-21 smashdown on the Wolves.

The loss to Monroe (3-2) on Friday, Nov. 4 may have ended Lake Stevens’ chance at state, but for the five graduating seniors on the team, the end of a season doesn’t mean the end of friendships and memories.

His senior football season seemingly down to its last dying breath, Viking quarterback Jake Nelson engineered what may be the greatest comeback drive in Lake’s nearly century-long football history last Saturday before a jam-packed home crowd, for a miraculous 21-17 win over Olympia.
