Lake Stevens Rowing Club (LSRC) will host the 2010 USRowing Northwest Regional Masters Regional Championships on June 25-27, 2010, USRowing announced last Tuesday.
“This is the first time in many years the USRowing Masters Regionals will be held outside of Vancouver, Wash.,” said LSRC President and Local Organizing Committee Chair Jon Brady, who was very pleased with the club’s selection. “USRowing was looking for a more accessible venue for masters rowing clubs in the greater Seattle and Vancouver B.C. region.”

Over the course of the three-day event, more than 1,100 athletes from 25 rowing clubs are expected to compete. In addition, several thousand family, friends and rowing supporters will contribute over $750,000 to the economy of Lake Stevens and surrounding communities. Local support from city, chamber of commerce, county, hospitality and business member organizations were critical in the successful bid for the event.
The 2010 USRowing Northwest Masters Regional Championship is to be a crowning achievement for LSRC, as they have hosted several major events including the annual Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conferences, Northwest Sculling Regatta and Spring 2K Regatta since 2002.

About Lake Stevens Rowing Club (LSRC): Established as a nonprofit membership organization in 1997, the club entered into a formal partnership with the City of Lake Stevens in 1999 and the club name, formerly NW Legends Rowing Club, became Lake Stevens Rowing Club. LSRC is recognized by USRowing, the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. USRowing is a member of the United States Olympic Committee and Federation Internationale des Societes D’Aviron (FISA), the international rowing federation.
LSRC Juniors rowing program was initiated in the fall of 2002. In 2003, a competitive masters program was introduced. Over the years, LSRC has hosted numerous regattas including the James Gardner Challenge, the annual Head of the Bull Trout and the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Championships. LSRC volunteers regularly support the annual Lake Stevens Triathlon competitions.

LSRC members have won several USRowing regional titles, and the membership includes three USRowing national champions. Bob Cummins was named the Northwest Region Contributor of the Year in 2004 and received national recognition as the recipient of USRowing Referee’s Julian Wolfe Award in 2005. LSRC’s new home and boat shed was completed in fall of 2006.
