Emma Clark, age 7, of Lake Stevens won the overall trophy for her age group at the Skagit Valley Highland Games on July 11 in Mount Vernon. She placed first in the Sword Dance and Scottish Lilt to achieve the overall highest points in the Beginner under nine years class.
Clark is a member of the Clan Heather Dancers and studies Highland dancing in the school’s Everett studio. She participates in competitions throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada.
Highland dancing is a Scottish traditional dance form that is both athletic and graceful.
Recognized around the world as a sophisticated folk dance form; Highland dancers like Clark have many opportunities to perform and compete.
